There is a big internet out there and you could surf 24 hours a day for weeks and still not see it all.  But let's say you are at work, it's 1:30 pm and you have already read dstb 10 times over.  You can't go home for another hour or until you sober up from lunch.  You're a big man, and what you want to do is use your time to the maximum by avoiding wasting it on low quality web sites.

There is a lot of pretty unbelievable crap out there, so I have assembled 5 categories

Worst Edmonton Based Punk Rock Internet Forum

Indecline.net

This is a punk rock forum based out of edmonton, my home town.

It is total hogwash.  It is ostensibly a forum to discuss punk rock and independent music and revolution and other subversive counterculture blah blah blah.  Overall not necessarily a terrible idea.  Except that the member base is a population consisting entirely of scenester asswipes from sherwood park.  The guys who made it seem like okay guys and I don't want to say anything negative about them.  They had an idea but they created a monster.

I avoid forums like the plague.   However, being into independent music I can't escape hearing things about this one every now and then.  I have checked it out 3 times in my life, the last time was a few days ago to find an email address and what I read was the last straw.

The thread was about "so you like a guy but"  with the but being you think he might be gay.  What on earth is happening here?  The sheer banality of this discussion froze my blood.  Subculture, yeah.  Look out you faschists!  Here come the ideas that will shake the systems of oppression to their very foundations.  Does he wear his bag emo, or gay?

This should be a topic for the forum on seventeen magazine.  Not that I approve of the thinking encouraged by seventeen magazine.  But at least the spongeheads reading seventeen aren't pretentious.  They wouldn't be able to comprehend why it is that one must be sheik and eat tofu with chopsticks to show how you are P.C. and world traveled.

I think its a joke.

In my opinion mainstream music and thought are shallow and boring.  The music and ideas that I love differ considerably from the prevailing whim.  So I am invested in this counterculture, or whatever badly fitting label I try to give it.  Part of the reason I chose these things was because I don't want to associate with fools.  I know that is elitist, but that's fine.  A lot of people are retards and I don't want to have anything to do with their bad ideas.

But fools are invading and nesting in my favorite places.  They have been given a voice, and so they should.  We all have a right to express ourselves.  And so all they talk about is gossip and trivialities.  Shallow and boring and exactly like everything we mavericks claim to be trying to avoid.  Its just a lifestyle like any other, I guess it always was.  We have our emo-uniform, listen to all the same bands, and have our handbook of revolutionary concepts that we believe in about 1%.

I guess you can't escape the dumbness, it follows you everywhere.  It leaks into your kayak, and your kayak sinks.

You're not punk and I'm telling everyone.

Worst Religious Web Site With Hilarious Twist

Blessed Hope Communications

I don't want to ruin the surprise in this description.  As you can see there is a pretty funny twist.  King Diamond would get a kick out of this.

Second Worst Thing To Happen To Bill

I can still tell your wife Bill

I suppose this is an example of what goes around comes around?  Or is it more a warning to never underestimate just how emotionally volatile yet resourceful someone who is willing to pursue a relationship with a married man can be.  Most people can recognize a doomed scenario like that and steer clear just to avoid the disaster.

But not everyone.

Most Annoying Thing I Have Seen This Week

Unicorn Girl

Not funny.  Unicorns.  The fact that it's not even what it seems makes it somehow more annoying.

Worst Faux Web Zine

web zine

The guy who writes this zine is an asshole.

Note:  A while ago I sent an email to the webmasters of indecline.net to see if they wanted to do some sort of link exchange or co-operative promotion schemes.  They haven't replied yet.  I just want to say that offer still stands.
